Tyrrell's Vat 47 Hunter Valley Chardonnay 2018

Sourced entirely from Tyrrell's own dry-grown Short Flat vineyard, where Murray Tyrrell planted their original Chardonnay vines in 1968. All of the fruit was hand-picked before immediately being basket pressed. The nose is delicate, showing white stone fruit and lovely floral notes with only a hint of oak. The palate is where the power of the Short Flat vineyard comes to the fore, exhibiting an intensity and length not often seen in other Chardonnays. Impeccably balanced between primary fruit characters, some secondary lees components and the fine-grained French oak it’s drinking beautifully now, but will easily last another five to ten years in the cellar. Held up as a benchmark for quality, the 2018 has scored 96pts from both Halliday and Huon Hooke!
