Approachable in every way, Inigo is the excellent value range of wines from the Clare Valley's Sevenhill winery. Named in honour of a young 16th Century Spanish courtier called Inigo, who eventually swapped a life of violence for one dedicated to helping others – co-founding the religious order we know today as the Jesuits. In the Inigo Shiraz, toasty oak, prunes, mocha and licorice aromas meld together setting the scene for generous dark-fruited flavours of plums and blackberries, threaded through with coconut and oatmeal nuances. Its fragrant bllack fruit and spice are delicious and sipping with slow-braised beef cheekswould would heighten the experience.

Sevenhill was originally set up in 1851 when the Jesuits who settled in the area planted the Clare Valley’s first vines to produce sacramental wine. The estate’s wines, along with its old stone winery, stately St Aloysius’ Church, College building and spacious gardens has made the Sevenhill name famous. So much so that they have recently won the Gourmet Traveller Award for best Large Cellar Door in the Clare Valley! Ray Jordan gives their 2021 Malbec a solid 92pts, "Malbec is a variety that does rather well in Clare, especially as a major blending component with cabernet. Still this one does it solo, and it does it well. Lots of the distinctive red floral fruits on the nose have that stamp of malbec. Bright and alive on a high energy palate with plenty of ripe red fruit characters with chalky tannins and understated oak in support."

Come savour pure, delicious 91pt Sevenhill Inigo Grenache from vines planted in the 1920s, without a hint of oak. Fresh aromas of strawberries, raspberries, cherries and a nice of cinnamon draw you in, leading to a pretty, finely detailed palate showcasing juicy fruits helmed by tart acidity. Another example of why Aussie Grenache is on the rise. "This is super-pale in the glass, and sets off with a magenta hue. Absolutely vibrant aromas, pretty and fresh; a cascade of pink fruit tumbles over itself to waft toward the nose. The palate is detailed, fresh and pretty, without the muscular, billowing density that grenache can achieve. The roots of Sevenhill Cellars go all the way back to the 16th century and co-founded the religious order we know today as the Jesuits. Fast forward to Adelaide in 1848, where Jesuit priestswith a group of over 100 German and Silesian migrants decided to settle amid the beautiful rolling hills of the Clare Valley and purchased 100 acres of land in 1849. Their leader named the property Sevenhill in honour of the seven hills of Rome. Today winemaker Will Shields maintains the winemaking traditions they started. The Gold-medal 95pt Inigo Riesling 2022 recently won the Trophy for Best Australian Dry White Wine at Hong Kong International. Bright aromas of lime, citrus, mineral and orange blossom. The palate is finely structured with gentle citrus and nectarine fruit flavours, crisp acidity and a clean balanced finish.
